I have been hearing about menstrual cups for years and admittedly, I was always too scared to try them. Being someone who struggled with that time of the month already (cramps, heavy flow, you ladies know what I mean), I was very happy sticking to my comfort blanket of tampons and pads.
That was until I learned the damage that single-use menstrual products have on the environment. For instance, tampons, pads and panty liners along with their packaging create more than 200,000 tonnes of waste per year, and they all contain plastic (pads are around 90% plastic), and the standard tampon will be around for longer than the person using it!
I have been using my Hello Cup for about 6 months now, and I've got to say, my period has never been easier. Once I got over my initial squeamish reactions and adjusted to the idea, I have to say, the transition from standard tampon to the menstrual cup was quite easy!
Apart from the obvious benefits (environment, reduced risk of TSS, no odor etc), it surprisingly comfortable (seriously, you can't feel it at all and it doesn't increase cramps like some tampons can, hallelujah), and it's so easy to use (I use the recommended pinch fold method)! I also haven't had any issues with leaking and can wear it all day/night with no worries!
Hello Cup's are also a great way to save money as one cup costs only $49 and if stored and cleaned correctly, lasts for up to 5 years! That's 60 periods of savings!
They are also super cute and come in a range of colors and sizes (available here) because we don't blame you if you want to match your cup to your outfit!
